It seems like life in the summer was simpler when we were kids (or maybe we didn't have a clue what was going on). For me, it was riding my bike to meet my friends at the public beach. For my kids, it was deciding whose pool they would swim in today.
We would meet our neighbors at an impromptu neighborhood BBQ, or end up in the middle of the lake, tying the boats together with whoever was there. The kids would jump in the water, the moms would pull food out of the coolers, and the dads would fire up the hibachi grills for burgers and dogs.
Everything tasted better outside. Sharing those experiences in person was the best!
Summer reminds us to get together with the people we enjoy and to gather in real life!
What we really crave are the warm connections, real conversations, and experiences that stick with us. The memory makers.
🍋 What is your FAVORITE summer memory? The one you can still FEEL when you think about it?
That’s exactly why this season is the perfect time to talk about in-person events. Over the next few weeks, I’m sharing a series of summery reflections, stories, and practical tips for anyone dreaming about (or planning) an in-person retreat, workshop, or community gathering. Let’s use these sunny days to dream big and plan well.
Summer slows us down just enough to remember that real connection still happens best in person.
📌 PRO TIP: One of the things that is so great about the summertime gatherings is the familiarity with the people in your circle. Make sure you have a plan to connect your attendees to your in-person event before they meet in person. What touchpoints can you use to help them get to know each other?
Each week, I'll share some nuggets from my Blog...
✨ Let’s talk about how summer reminds us to gather in real life~
You see their body language. You hear the inflection in their voice. You feel understood. You laugh more and listen better. You don’t just “catch up”—you connect.
Mash 2 mint leaves in the bottom of a large cocktail glass or pint glass with a muddler or small wooden spoon. Fill the glass one-third full of ice; add 3/4 cup watermelon juice. Top with 1/2 cup club soda and garnish with a watermelon slice and more mint leaves, if desired.
Equipment
Muddler or small wooden spoon
To make ahead
Make the watermelon-mint juice and store it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days until ready to assemble the mocktail.
Hints & Tips
We suggest a piece of watermelon as a garnish, but you can also use a slice of lime and a little salt around the rim of your glass.
If you want to change things up, consider replacing lemon juice with lime juice and mint with fresh basil. You can also substitute kombucha for club soda. For added flair, muddle in some in-season berries such as blackberries, strawberries, raspberries or blueberries.
➡️ Next week we’re diving into some red-white-and-true nostalgia (including sparklers, Popsicles, and planning lessons from childhood summers). You won’t want to miss it!

Reader It seems like everyone- coast to coast- is complaining about the record heat! We should be used to it in Arizona, I mean c'mon, it happens every year 😎🌵 Back in Vermont, where I grew up, the old-timer locals would say, "Wicked hot!" or "Raining again? There goes the summer." So, why don't we ever have a plan for something productive that we COULD do (and probably something we say we always want to get to 'someday') when the weather doesn't cooperate? The weather is perfect in Arizona...
